  84.     Budd Hopkins had a surgical procedure last week in New York and it went
  85. extremely well.  He can anticipate no more problems and will lead a healthy
  86. life (hopefully).  He is home now and on the mend.  Although it threw a scare
  87. into all of us close to him, the best possible outcome came  from a serious
  88. situation.  We are all relieved and Budd will resume his schedule in a few
  89. weeks.

  179. Why would an adult think "pottie"?  Don't you think that's an unusual choice of
  180. words/expression?  (How did she determine it was a "he"?)  Why would they be
  181. worried about such a mess?

  183. I love these kind of examples because lately I've been forcing myself to
  184. specifically concentrate on two possibilities:  1) Abductions occur strictly in
  185. the mind, they have no objective reality, they have no physical reality, they
  186. are a self-created illus
  187. I haven't begun to understand all the elements associated with #2 above, (and
  188. I've allowed myself #1 simply to serve as the whipping boy), but there are at
  189. least two areas that interest me.
  190.  
  191. First, there is the large area called Stigmata, (which Jacobs should have done
  192. more on, IMHO).  It is not enough to acknowledge that stigmata exists, which it
  193. does, and then dismiss it solely because we don't understand how it could
  194. possibly account for t(his.) It is not enough to explain Christian-related
  195. blood myths as stigmatic responses and close the book.  The _mind_ caused those
  196. experiences, that much is documented.  Shall we assume that the mind is,
  197. somehow, therefore incapable of a non-Christian stigmati
  198. Second, there is this area called 'phantom pain', usually associated with
  199. phantom limbs.  An amputee can 'feel' the missing limb, feel heat or cold or
  200. touch, etc.  Additionally, when a spot on a phantom limb 'itches' it can be
  201. 'scratched' and the 'itch' w
  202. "...neuromatrix, or network of neurons, that, in addition to responding to
  203. sensory stimulation, continuously generates a characteristic pattern of
  204. impulses indicating that the body is intact and unequivocally one's own."  
  205.  
  206. "The brain does more than detect and analyze inputs; it generates perceptual
  207. experience even when no external inputs occur.  We do not need a body to feel
  208. a body."

  218.  Removing a portion of the form does not alter the original template - the
  219. template exists, in at least a near-complete form, prior to the existance of
  220. the form itself.

  223. like nor do I think does anyone who hasn't experienced it; and given this
  224. proposed scenario I feel that conventional hypnotic regression techniques are
  225. _fully incapable_ of revea

  227. before it wet the bed to avoid detection...???)

  256.         You saw the show, then?  I saw a teaser for it but couldn't 
  257. watch the program.  I'm interested in the Corder situation (OMNI 
  258. story I did) and didn't know he had his license back -- is this 
  259. firm, not a gonna but a done?  I'd love to hear anything you recall 
  260. from that segment.  Thanks for the note (above) mentioning it which 
  261. allowed me to learn about this interesting detail!

  313.         I was so impressed by your excellent presentation on last 
  314. week's (4/24/92) "Weird Night" on KOA Radio -- you did a great job 
  315. of conveying information quickly and without extraneous detail and 
  316. of relating that information in an entertaining and enlightening 
  317. way.  It was a great program and I'm sure Rick Barber (host) enjoyed 
  318. what you had to say as much as his listeners, including myself, did.
  319.         Many of the issues you pointed out made me see the abductee 
  320. situation in a new light.  Particularly impressive to me were two 
  321. points you raised: 1) the missing people really are physically 
  322. missing, based on searches and family members reporting the missing 
  323. to police, and 2) the similarity of all reports of examination, 
  324. whether the reporting person is an adult or small child (adults 
  325. might have common background of having read/seen/heard such 
  326. descriptions and absorbed them into confabultion but it's extremely 
  327. unlikely that children could've done so.)  The most outstanding 
  328. point, though, was the lack of explanation offered by abductees.  I 
  329. had not thought of that before -- that it would be the first thing a 
  330. confabulator or otherwise in-error person reporting abduction would 
  331. do, but these people who appear to actually be abductees have not 
  332. created or found any answer to the "why are they here" or "why are 
  333. they doing this" questions because they don't know the answers.  It 
  334. makes perfect sense that someone who would create the story of his 
  335. own abduction for whatever reason would also create a response to 
  336. fill that gap.
  337.         In fact, the interesting points you brought up on the Weird 
  338. Night program and the comments and supporting evidence you added 
  339. have convinced me that I must now read your book.

  358. I don't know why aliens would be afraid of a mess, unless they have 
  359. cleaned up a bunch of messes.  Remember the South American man (I 
  360. recall the words "Villa Boas" for some reason) I mentioned earlier who 
  361. said he threw up while aboard the spacecraft.  I seem to recall 
  362. some-thing I saw in OMNI within the last year about people who said
  363. they had thrown up while abducted.  I can look for that article later 
  364. in the week...

  366. I recall Budd Hopkins talking about mind abductions while I attended
  367. the Pensacola MUFON Conference in July 1990.  While the aliens may be 
  368. playing mind games, for some it is all too real, so it seems.

  398. According to the program, it's a fait accompli. I'm not sure what reason was 
  399. given for lifting it in the first place, does anyone know? Anyway, Corder 
  400. was among the strangest of the strange. I didn't know you wrote the OMNI 
  401. article about him, I would have provided you with my Corder file, which is 
  402. about an inch thick with correspondence from him, all showing one man's 
  403. gradual descent into total insanity.

  405. The only good segment on that program was the abductions and the interview 
  406. with Jacobs. Unfortunately, that was sandwiched between the Gulf Breeze 
  407. lights and Corder. The Gulf Breeze lights are almost surely balloon-borne 
  408. road flares. A Current Affair made a big deal about catching the things on 
  409. camera and having zero explanation, yet the first thing I thought of was 
  410. "road flare." The things burned an incandescent, sparkly red for a while, 
  411. then flashed white and winked out - EXACTLY what a road flare would do. 
  412. Here's the unfortunate thing: A Current Affair used to make fun of UFOs. 
  413. While its good to see such a program change its mind, its terrible if it 
  414. happens for the wrong reason. When and If the GB flare UFOs are ever 
  415. exposed, ACA will have its face covered with indelible egg, and will 
  416. probably vow, "We won't get fooled again." After that point, a landing in 
  417. St. Peter's Square on live satellite TV wouldn't impress them.

  439. work with protect yourselves against potential malpractice suits
  440. that may arise from "discontented" subjects.

  442. This insurance consideration seems to be a significant research
  443. roadblock for many professionals, who fear possible reprisals from
  444. individuals for therapy conducted outside of the conventional
  445. clinic scenario.
